Contents of the Live CD

Due to the complexity of law, sidux will only provide dfsg-free software on the live-cd, please check this link for additional information on non-free sources for firmware

The ISO is completely based on Debian Sid (up to date as of 2008-06-xx) enriched and stabilised with sidux' own packages and scripts. It comes with kernel kernel 2.6.26.slh.xx (smp, hard preemption). which is based on the most recent vanilla kernel together with sidux enhanced patches.

ACPI and DMA are enabled by default (can be disabled with acpi=off and nodma respectively in grub bootline)

i686 optimisation - not for use with older CPUs! (AMD64, Intel Core2, newer 64 bit capable AMD Sempron and Intel Pentium 4 CPUs (watch for the "lm" flag in /proc/cpuinfo or use infobash -v3) and i686 (Pentium pro/ Pentium II, AMD K7 Athlon or newer)

192 MB RAM required, 256 MB RAM recommended

Applications and Tools

The sidux-CD holds a variety of different programs and tools that cover almost any need of a desktop-user in everyday life.

For the Internet surfing Konqueror one of the worlds smartest web browsers with an extra kick: it has a file manager, FTP client and ssh -gui data transfer built in (sftp): very rare in web browsing world, and secondly iceweasel as an alternative.

You wish to partition a hard drive, we have provided GParted and also cfdisk and gparted also now has an ntfs resize facility!
